Kyffin Williams

Biography

He is widely regarded as the defining artist of Wales during the 20th century.

Kyffin Williams' attraction for the landscape of east Anglesey and the Penmon peninsula is the focus of this new exhibition.

In 1954 his mother moved back to Anglesey, living in a house close to their ancestral home - Treffos, Llansadwrn. He visited her frequently when he was away from teaching in London and spent time exploring the area discovering new locations and subjects for painting and drawing.

The works on show will demonstrate that Kyffin was not just creating images of its physicality, he was embracing the emotional and cultural aspects of the landscape. He formed a close friendship with many of the people who resided there and painted their portraits.

This exhibition includes numerous works from the Oriel's collection, as well as loans from the National Library of Wales and private owners.
