John Arthur Jones

Portrait of John Arthur Jones

Biography

JOHN ARTHUR JONES (6.11.1931) was brought up in a small holding farm during the Second World War, on Anglesey in North Wales. He developed a love of the countryside and seashore, and began drawing and painting rural scenes at an early age.

Since retirement John renewed his interest in painting and currently has a collection of paintings which are mostly oil and water colour landscapes. Over the years John’s work has been exhibited at various libraries and galleries in Northamptonshire, the Derngate Theatre Northampton, and in Daventry, Rugby, Corby and Warwick. Following his return to live in Anglesey, some of his work has been accepted at the Ucheldra Centre, Holyhead, the Canolfan Centre, Beaumaris, the Museum and Gallery in Bangor and at Oriel Môn in Llangefni.

This exhibition and the accompanying book (on sale in the shop) showcases the Welsh landscape paintings of the artist. The exhibition displays a record of paintings from John’s beloved family home of the rugged and beautiful landscapes of Anglesey and North Wales, together with a few paintings from other parts of Wales too.

Three of the paintings in the book (‘Swtan’, ‘Dunes, Aberffraw’, and ‘Afon Menai’) are not in this exhibition as they are now part of the permanent collection of Oriel Môn, for which John is delighted, proud and very humbled. All the other works on display and in the book may be available for purchase - for more information ask the gallery staff or email paintingsjajones@gmail.com
