My recent landscape work is produced using acrylic paint on paper, or like the exhibited work, using compressed black charcoal and pastel on large-scale white primed panels. Most of my work is based on local Welsh subjects, or most recently seen on visits to Yorkshire. These are studio works, using sketches done 0n-the-spot which despite the original observation incorporate imaginative or compositional changes in the studio process. The absence of colour is a liberating factor: texture, tonal contrast and surface become more focused.
