Observational drawing is at the heart of my practice. I began with the meticulous drawing of objects, endeavouring to imbue them with a presence and personality, looking at the relationships, both pictorial and emotional which seem to appear when drawing them. The imaginative scenarios in which I place them seem benign, but a closer look may well reveal tension and very often a subtle hint of menace alongside gentle humour.

Two’s Company is a drawing of figurines that, for better or worse are stuck together. It includes a model of The Ladies of Llangollen from a time when I was Artist in Residence at Plas Newydd.
